THEN…
Alia spends the first part of her story on a small farm in Northern MN. Her love of music formed from an ironic mix of the old-time country her parents listened to and… Broadway Musicals. She delved into piano lessons as soon as she was deemed “old enough”, and singing along was just her natural inclination.
A whole new musical world opened up for her at age 14 when she bought a 4-track tape recorder. Discovering that she could create entire bands and choirs by simply recording with herself in her living room was the point at which her song-writing began.
…NOW
After earning a degree in music, Alia transported herself to Portland, Oregon. Here, she often plays and sings with fellow bands in the neighborhood, and has appeared on several recordings set to debut in 2009: Weinland, Norfolk & Western, Mbilly, The Subcons, and Leonard Mynx. She is also a member of the newly founded trio, The Alialujah Choir, with songwriting maestros Adam Selzer and Adam Shearer. Aside from performing, Alia has created the Lah Dee Dah Company, providing private music lessons in the Portland area.
